Every student arrives with different experiences, confidence and ambitions.
Sometimes progress means achieving a higher grade.
Sometimes it means finally understanding something that has never quite made sense.
And sometimes the biggest change is simply beginning to believe that a difficult question can be tackled.
Charlie came to Maths Mentoring in summer 2025 as a strong A-Level student already working at around an A grade.
Having decided to drop Further Maths at the end of Year 12, he wanted focused support to help him make the step from A to A* in A-Level Maths — the grade he needed for university.
Our weekly sessions were not about simply repeating content. They focused on approaching the most demanding questions with clarity, improving mathematical strategy and exam decision-making, and developing greater confidence and efficiency under exam conditions.
Mechanics had initially been the area Charlie found most difficult. Through our work together — including developing more efficient approaches to topics such as projectiles — it progressively became one of the parts of Mathematics he felt most comfortable with.
Just as importantly, Charlie was already strong in many areas. The mentoring therefore wasn't simply about fixing weaknesses; it was about challenging him further, refining his thinking and finding the small improvements that can separate an A from an A*.
Charlie achieved the A* grade he needed for university — turning an already strong A-Level performance into the exceptional result he had been working towards.

I was stuck at a pretty low level in maths when I started, at Functional Skills Level 2. It felt like I was staring at a mountain I needed to climb, all the way up to a degree level. The journey ahead was daunting, and every tutor I found in Norfolk said it couldn't be done. Except for Said.
He saw potential where others saw a lost cause. In just four months, he took me from my basic math's level, all the way up to degree level. He didn't just tutor me, he believed in me, and he made me believe in myself.
His commitment is incredible. Said was there to help me whenever I needed it, even on Christmas Eve. That’s not something you find in every tutor. It shows that Said's not just doing a job, he really cares about his students.
His way of teaching made complex things easy to understand. He has a knack for breaking down big problems into smaller parts that make sense. It felt like he was unlocking my brain and all of a sudden, I could see the answers clearly.
The proof is in my results. I started with a score of 27.5% and after Said's guidance, I scored a whopping 87.5%. That’s a result that I didn't even dare to dream of.

At first i didn't feel like i was going to pass maths at all with the skills i had back in year 10 but when i saw that i was improving and getting better at answering difficult questions, i believed that i can achieve what i wanted and needed to continue my education. That was all because of Said! He helped me improve my maths skills and taught me everything that i needed for my GCSE's. There were moments where i didn't understand a question and he would explain it so easily that i fully understood it, which challenged me to have a go at similar questions.
Said is not only an amazing teacher but i consider him as a best friend, we laughed together and made many happy memories. He gave me the confidence to walk into that exam hall and try the best that i could. Examination results matter, but they are only part of the story.
Some of the feedback I value most describes students becoming more confident, more independent and more willing to tackle unfamiliar mathematics.
Those changes can last long after an examination has finished.
